I’m Shelley Munro, writer of contemporary and paranormal tales, and a new columnist here at The Raven Happy Hour blog. My monthly topic is UFOs and sci-fi things, which is a very broad topic and one that totally fascinates me.
So what is a UFO?
My Merriam Webster’s dictionary defines a UFO as an unidentified flying object, especially a flying saucer.
Some people believe in them and say the governments of the world are keeping the knowledge and proof from us. Other people pooh-pooh the idea and tell us that the objects we see are objects such as planes, weather balloons or satellites.
The UFO Phenomenon by John Michael Greer offers several interesting hypotheses as to what UFOs could be.
1. Anthropogenic Hypothesis where people believe that human beings here on Earth make and pilot the UFOs. In other words, UFOs are an elaborate hoax.
2. Intraterrestrial Hypothesis where people claim that Earth is a hollow sphere with a second surface inside, facing an interior sun. There are openings at the poles and intrepid travelers have found their way into our world in this way.
3. Cryptoterrestrial Hypothesis where people claim UFOs are made by intelligent nonhuman entities living unseen on the surface of Earth.
4. Time-Travel Hypothesis where people think UFOs and their occupants are actually time travelers.
5. Zoological Hypothesis where people think UFOs are actually living things. Think dragons or other similar beings.
6. Geophysical Hypothesis where people think UFOs come out of an inanimate natural process.
7. Demonic Hypothesis where people think UFOs are spiritual rather than physical. Think demons.
8. Ascended Masters Hypothesis where people think UFOs are positive spiritual entities. Think angels or ancient Egyptian gods.
9. Ultraterrestrial Hypothesis where people think UFOs are related to psychic phenomena and the world of myth, magic and spirituality.
10. Neurological Hypothesis where people think UFOs are actually neurochemical events in human brains.
Interesting, don’t you think? People have really thought about this topic and tried to find a reason behind UFOs.
What do you think UFOs are? Do you buy into any of the above theories or do you have a different one?
Shelley Munro believes in UFOs, although her only sighting so far has been in her Talking Dog series, which started when aliens Janaya and Hinekiri crash landed in the New Zealand country town of Sloan. You can learn more about the Talking Dog series and Shelley at www.shelleymunro.com
