Howling At The Moon

Okay we aren’t actually howling at the moon this month but i’ve got the lunar calendar on my mind and so i’m dedicating much of this first post to the shiny white ball in the sky.

I’m actually going to be blogging about paranormal crafts and recipes. Recipes i’ve got covered but you can expect the unusual when it comes to crafts. In fact, we’ll use that word loosely, okay?

I like to write paranormal books about witches so I do a lot of research on wicca and many pagan rituals which alway lead back to the moon. The moon is all about timing and when you are considering any witchy crafts or spells, having a lunar calendar on hand is imperative.

Besides the moon there are many other things you can do to set yourself up for success when it comes to the paranormal crafts and this goes for those new recipes we try as well. I don’t know about you, but sometimes I can use all the help I can get. So here’s a list of fun things you can do to improve your chances before you even start.

  1. If you want to create a potion that enhances psychic abilities, wait for the full moon. A full moon increases extrasensory perception.
  2. To make your food taste better, place a quartz crystal on or near your stove.
  3. Aphrodisiacs should always be prepared during the waxing of the moon.
  4. A small pot of basil growing in your kitchen keeps the area safe from evil forces and negative spirits.
  5. Homemade magickal incenses become more fragrant if aged several months before they are used. So plan ahead.
  6. To keep unlucky influences away while cooking magickal recipes always stir in a clockwise direction.
  7. Consider a small aloe plant in your workspace for those inevitable ‘accidents’.
  8. Herbals should never be prepared in aluminum cookware.
  9. And no space is complete without a lunar calendar showing the phases of the moon and it’s movement through the zodiac.

As for the moon again…

The next full moon is December 2nd and is called the Cold Moon or the Long Night Moon because we are moving into the darkest and longest nights of the year. But December is a little special because on December 31st there is another full moon creating a Blue Moon (only happens when there are two full moons in one month). Should make for an interesting month and an intriguing New Year’s Eve.

If you’re interested in trying out a simple pagan craft I leave you with this:

Moon Water Pagan Craft

Set a silver container filled with water and a moonstone out on the night of a full moon just as it rises (which will be at sunset).

Allow the water to soak up Lunar rays all night. Just before dawn, rise and retrieve the water. Place in an earthen jug and cork tightly. (never expose to the rays of the sun). Add to the bath for love; anoint money to increase wealth; touch the brow to promote psychic awareness.

Feeling a little more conventional? How about this:

Blue Moon Cocktail Recipe

  • 1  cup  crushed ice
  • 1/4  cup  vodka
  • 1/4  cup  blue curaçao
  • 1/4  cup  whipping cream
  • 2  tablespoons  vanilla-flavored syrup
  • 2  tablespoons fresh orange juice
  • 1  tablespoon  Cointreau or other orange-flavored liqueur

In a blender, combine all ingredients and whirl until smooth. Pour into four martini glasses (4 oz.) and garnish the rim of each glass with a slice of orange.

Have a good one!
