Say NO to pirates & ebook pirating!

Pirating means authors can't continue to write series/books that don't earn out or make a profit.

History of Our Insanity

Did we really say that?

Are vampires dead?

Laugh now, but every time I hear publishers, authors, and readers ask that question or respond with a “Yes”, it’s often followed by a surge of interest in the vampire genre. Last time I watched it happen, the movies based on Anne Rice’s Interview with a Vampire series started coming out. Then there was Buffy the Vampire Slayer and no, oh no…vampires are not dead. Well, undead maybe. But they appear to be here to stay, and their fascination lives on.

Now these days we have the True Blood tv series, the Twilight movies, and if you’ve been paying attention, the Vampire Diaries based on a series of books which I adored as a pre-teen. I am frankly addicted to True Blood and am Team Eric all the way. But I will say that the chemistry between Sookie and Bill on the show is intense. Definitely worth the watch!

My debut novel came out on Halloween of ‘07 in ebook back in the days of Aphrodite’s Apples (R.I.P.), and was re-released at Freya’s Bower in December of ‘08. It began as a huge project which I decided would be best to tell over a series of books or wind up selling a book 500k in word count versus the just under 100k it is at present. That book is Blood of the Dark Moon. I will say up front that it’s pretty different from your standard vampire novel. I’ve been heavily influenced from my days in Vampire: the Masquerade role playing games, Buffy, and the works of Alan Moore. It’s definitely a paranormal erotic romance and squarely in the urban fantasy genre. I’m unafraid to reference “real life” mystical and magical traditions, secret societies, and even take a page or two from Aleister Crowley’s Book of the Law, aka Liber AL. It will probably never appeal to the masses like Twilight or the Southern Vampire book series have, but thus far a great number of people have read it and enjoyed it. I was shocked to even find it listed on someone’s profile page as their favorite book.

The most commonly asked question I get, especially from locals, is “When will it be out in print?” The answer has been “I have no idea.” Now I can change it to “January 5th, 2010.”

It’s been revamped (hah) with a new cover too:

I’m tickled pink, honestly. I plan to dance in my living room while clutching to a copy of the paperback edition, a lampshade on my head, the music blaring full blast…oh yeah. The neighbors will call the cops on me, and it’ll be worth it. This is the moment I’ve dreamed of since I was eleven years old and decided I wanted to be a writer, and at nearly thirty-two…well, I think I’ve earned it.

It’s available for pre-order at my publisher’s and on Amazon.com:
