Movie Review – X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Happy (belated) New Year! So… Hugh Jackman. Yeah, says it all. If he’s in a movie, I’m pretty much going to give it a try even if I’ve heard negative reviews.

Title: X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Sub-genre(s): Sci-fi paranormal, fantasy, action/adventure
Current available format(s): DVD and Blu-ray
Length: Approx. 1 hr. 47 min.
Movie rating: PG-13
Review rating: C

In this action-packed prequel to the prior X-Men movies, we’re taken back to the events that led up to and included the bonding of the metal alloy adamantium to Wolverine’s skeleton, forever changing his mutant life. The death of his girlfriend adds a touch of romance, perpetually unleashes the “wolf” in him and sends Wolverine (played by Jackman) on the warpath against villain, Victor Creed. With lots of special effects, sci-fi touches, fight scenes, suspense and yummy muscle, I would recommend this one as a decent rental. I gave it a C rating mostly because it didn’t live up to the others in this movie series and was somewhat of a letdown in that respect. Too bad this prequel wasn’t released first. I think having nothing to compare it to would have done wonders for its ratings, making the progression that follows just keep getting hotter and hotter. Sort of like the buildup to a romantic, sizzling relationship.
