My husband and I watched the delightful animated cartoon Planet 51 recently. It’s about an astronaut from Earth who lands on an inhabited planet.
The planet is a 1950s-type world. Families have cook-outs and movies are popular, especially monster movies about aliens attacking the planet. Panic ensues when the earth astronaut lands on the planet. The authorities are hunting him and he seeks refuge with a young local before trying to find his space ship so he can leave the planet.
The plot is fairly simple, but I enjoyed the cartoon none the less. As with lots of cartoons there are jokes that only adults will get. I enjoyed the characters, especially the secondary character Rover (an advance probe sent from Earth). He’s very cute.
This is a fun cartoon, suitable for both children and adults, and it does a good job of showing us what would happen is we were the aliens.
